If you include your statement in the cover letter, you need to keep it around 50-150 words maximum. As your cover letter and resume already include many information and pages, and if you make your statement lengthy, then recruiters may find it hard to read.

Before writing your professional personal statement, you need to search for the company’s details or organisation where you want to apply for a job. It will help you know about the requirements of the recruiters and the details of the company.

Take Notes of your Skills, Strengths, and Achievements

Make a list of your skills, strengths, and achievements. Many people possess various skills, and writing them in one place will help you select the relevant points to the job, excluding the irrelevant ones. It will save a lot of time as you don’t need to think and recall the events while writing your final draft, as everything will be listed together.

Write and Rewrite

You can write your first draft without focusing on its length. It will enable you to improve your statement while rewriting it. However, you can edit it later by removing the less important stuff.

For example, you could say;

  • I have a proven record of handling customers as I attended a workshop and spent two years in a specific job that helped me gain in-depth knowledge and about the customers’ requirements. You can share any relevant examples of feedbacks you received from customers and your boss.
  • Instead of saying you have been promoted two times in six months, you can explain why and how. You need to explain what difference you made or what innovation you implemented, which brought you back-to-back promotions.

Never Include Incorrect Information

If you feel that you can win the job simply by including fabricated information in your statement, then you are wrong. In case if you do so, you are likely to get caught in the interview. So, you need to be careful enough while mentioning What you have done? What can you do? And How can you do it?

However, you need to prove practically whatever you have included once you get hired.

Note: If you are unemployed, you must mention the reasons and duration of your unemployment and include what you have done during that period.

Example: completed a course, degree, or tried a business, etc.

Similarly, if you want to change your career, then you can explain the reasons behind it and your efficiencies that make you a perfect fit for the job.
